Lakewoods Apartments Meals
We definitely know how to multiply the food donations!
Once a month Oakwood UMC cooks and serves a meal for Lakewoods Apartments. Lakewoods residents are either disabled or elderly. They love seeing us come! This is a family friendly ministry and children are welcome to help with a supervising adult. All are welcome to join us at OUMC to prep the meal Saturday morning from 9:30-11:30 am or meet us at Lakewoods on Wilmington Avenue to help serve from 12-1pm. See our calendar for the next scheduled meal.
Christian Crochet Circle
This fun bunch are learning to crochet and are using those skills to make items for those less fortunate. We've made potholders included in bags with soup & microwavable bowl, & we've made hats to put into our James Bags to give to those on the streets. In 2024, we are looking to make small blankets for "Morgan's Place Cemetery." Come join us!
Blanket Ministry
We continuously collect gently used or new blankets to distribute in the community. We wash and make any repairs before passing them along. Drop off blankets anytime!
James Bags
Based on James chapter 2 we will be making "James Bags" for congregation members to put in their car to give to a needy person who is looking for help. Our Bible Study has been studying James and had a discussion about helping the needy and loving our neighbor as ourselves in James chapter 2. The bags will contain some small necessary items, along with some notes of encouragement, pictures drawn by the children, and useful information on where to receive additional help. It will be a wonderful way to help feed God's lambs both physically and spiritually.
Dakota Center Christmas Love Bags
At Christmastime, we hand out empty gift bags with a child's gender & age for you to fill with toys, toiletries, warm scarves, mittens, books, etc. We top it off with a stocking & candy and deliver the filled bags to the Dakota Center for their family Christmas party.
