Welcome to our Artisan Soul Worship for this week. I have a video to share with you, and then I will post some pictures of my creations. Before we get started, you might want to grab your art supplies. You can paint, pencil sketch, sculpt, make a collage, whatever you have on hand. Let's get creative!
Here is a video telling the Legend of the Christmas Rose, and some reflections to consider before you start creating.
Here are the lyrics to Lo' How a Rose e're Blooming: (You can hear Jen and Ella play it in the Prayer Service.)
1. Lo, how a Rose e'er blooming; From tender stem hath sprung!
Of Jesse's lineage coming, As men of old have sung.
It came, a flower bright, Amid the cold of winter, When half spent was the night.
2. Isaiah 'twas foretold it, The Rose I have in mind;
With Mary we behold it, The virgin mother kind.
To show God's love aright, She bore to men a Savior, When half spent was the night.
3. O flower, whose fragrance tender With sweetness fills the air,
Dispels with glorious splendor The darkness everywhere;
True Man, yet very God, From sin and death He saves us, And lightens every load.
This is a painting I did as I reflected on the story and the song. I was thinking about staying at the manger longer this year. Celebrating the fact that Christ came to be with us, mere humans. What a wonderful thought. So, the rose is outside the stable. The star is still in the sky. The glitter paint represents the power of God coming down, but also the tears from the legend, when Madelon cried and the rose sprung out of the ground where her tears fell.
The other, is my Polymer Clay sculpture of the Christmas Rose. The snow has parted, and the stem comes out with the tears, (they are purple). It can sit on my desk, or the hook could hang on a Christmas Tree
While you create, find a nice Christmas Play list on You Tube or the internet and listen to Lo How A Rose and other songs as you create this week.
Wow! Nice art!
Beautiful lesson. You are so talented.
