These are ways for you to connect with neighbors and friends and “be the church” without being too “churchy”. They will offer ways to participate in activities, in a safe and distanced way this Advent.
The theme for the Fresh Expression is JOY!, and I hope these activities will help you bring Joy to our world, and give glory to God, because you will be doing what we are ultimately created to do, BE IN COMMUNITY! I hope you will invite people to join you in these outdoor Fresh Expressions so that you can help bring light into people’s lives this Advent. And please remember to be safe and stay socially distanced.
Spread a little Joy.
Make a sign for your front door or front yard.
Just the word
You can make it out of felt and ribbon for the door, or out of shatter proof ornaments on wire, or even out of lights so it shines throughout the night. Have an old yard sign out in the garage? Paint it with black or dark paint and make the word JOY out of a string of lights, or a bright paint. Cut big letters out of old signs and stick them in the front flower bed. Have fun. Invite a friend or neighbor to make one with you for their yard. Let JOY be seen around our town.
(Not feeling creative, or don't have supplies at home to make one, let me know, we can open up the church for you to rummage through our supplies, or look on Amazon, there are some really fun door banners for not too much money.)
Scripture Focus: Psalm 80:19 *(just read the verse with your group, talk a little about how God smiles on us that that should bring us joy!)
Put new life into us, and we will worship you.
Lord God All-Powerful, make us strong again!
Smile on us and save us.
Here is a picture of a sign I made for my yard, and one for the church. I might put lights around it. I'm not sure!
Post a picture of your sign on our Facebook pager, or at the bottom of this page, in the comments.
