Welcome to our online Ash Wednesday Service. If you have not pick up a "to-go" Planting Hope Station, please contact Pastor Lori and we can make arrangements for you to pick one up. We will be talking about the growing plants throughout Lent, so it is never too late to get one started.
In the meantime, you can still worship, and during the Imposition of the Ashes, at home, I invite you to get a little dirt, maybe from a plant in your house, or even find a dusty surface in your house (I am sure I am not the only one with a dusty house!) And use that to make the sign of the cross on your hand. Or simply make the sign of the cross in the air.
Go ahead and light a candle, invite God into your time of worship. You might want to read along n your own Bible, or get a journal or piece of paper to reflect on. Or pause and have conversation with whomever you are worshipping at home with. I am glad you are here.
Invitation to Lenten Disciplines, a Reading from Joel, Opening Prayer and Call to Worship:
Taizé Songs are meant to be prayers in themselves, as so the refrains are repetitive for you to internalize and sing along. Feel free to rewind and play it over and over again!
Come and Fill our Hearts and Psalm 51
Take a moment to reflect on the Psalm. What words are speaking to you today? Listen again if you need to, and hear God's message in the words of the psalm for your life and your faith during this season of Lent.
Hear this Litany for you today. How do the words and the spoken words and the song lyrics speak to you today?
We Come: A Litany for Ash Wednesday, and O Lord Hear My Prayer
Our next Scripture reading is from Isaiah, followed by another taizé song. What do you think about the darkness and the light? How will the light be our hope this year? Where is God's light shin gin in your life?
Hear this blessing and let the words speak to you as you consider the ashes, the dust of the earth and the glitter that helps us shine in the darkness and play in the dirt of hope. This is the time that you will plant the seeds and mark yourself with the cross of God's promises.
And as you go out, Sing along with our final Taizé Song, Lord Jesus Christ. Let the words speak to your hearts, and then hear these final words from 2Corinthians and the Benediction.
Please feel free to leave comments below, as a place to share your worship experience with others.
Let us have a Lent full of Hope! And I hope you are able to get seed and have a plant to care for throughout Lent.
Thank you for this service. Bless you Pastor Lori.
Thank you for all the extra work you put forth for this Ash Wednesday service, It was very nice. I wish I had been there in person.
Thank you for this Ash Wednesday service - we would like a "to go" seed package for lent. God's light shines for us through the healing he has blessed us with these past few weeks.
